Bigtorage, a company developing optimal control and operation technologies for Energy Storage Systems (ESS), has announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Tilda, a company specializing in artificial intelligence (AI) technologies for the energy sector. The partnership aims to explore market expansion and the development of optimal ESS solutions, starting with Japan and extending to both domestic and international markets.
The MOU focuses on collaborative models for entering the Japanese market, mutual support between the two companies, the integration and development of Bigtorage's ESS technology with Tilda's AI capabilities, and joint technological advancement for overseas expansion. Since Japan introduced the FIT (Feed-in Tariff) system in 2012, there has been a rapid increase in the adoption of renewable energy, particularly solar power. The Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) has also announced plans to strengthen support for the expansion of renewable energy and ESS adoption.
Additionally, Japan's FIP (Feed-in Premium) system promotes the introduction of ESS by providing approximately 1 yen/kWh to renewable energy producers who adopt ESS, with plans to increase this to around 2 yen/kWh by 2025. These support policies are expected to drive further growth in ESS adoption. In line with this, Bigtorage and Tilda plan to leverage Bigtorage's ESS operation technology and expertise along with Tilda's AI solutions for solar energy to enhance their technological competitiveness in the Japanese ESS market. The partnership aims to lead the future of Japan's ESS market by providing cutting-edge energy solutions.
Bigtorage's ESS solutions include optimal control technology for electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, refrigerated trucks, and commercial buildings, and can be applied across various sectors where ESS is utilized. Previously, Bigtorage established an ESS Power Management System (PMS) in Naju, South Korea, integrating solar power generation with EV chargers. Earlier this year, the company secured an export contract to Vietnam, providing optimized PMS solutions and an Energy Management System (EMS) platform, which has enhanced the completeness of their ESS solutions and strengthened their presence in the Vietnamese market.
Tilda is advancing AI solutions tailored to both domestic and international energy markets, particularly focusing on AI-driven industrial decision-making optimization solutions and self-consumption solar optimization solutions in Japan’s energy sector.
